Sonnie Trotter is one of the Worlds most accomplished rock climbers. Which, for a teenage boy growing up in the flatlands of southern Ontario is a remarkable feat. He has become the first Canadian to win a US National and to climb 5.14c and 5.14d. Along with his wife Lydia and son Tatum, Trotter lives and works on the road, but spends most of his time between Canmore Alberta and Squamish BC. In search of king lines, he continues to explore climbing areas all around the world, but always returns to Canada for its wild beauty.
Andy Arts (aka The Belayer to the Stars) started climbing 15 years ago and despite his old age, he’s still at it! He is father of 2 awesome boys and the husband of his beautiful Queen Kat. Andy is know for saying “…that’s ok if you don’t agree with me, I agree with myself”. He may seem tough, but he’s a teddy bear inside. Andy’s roll in Canmore’s Climbing Festival has him organizing the venue, sponsors and handling finances. You’ll also get to see him up on stage with Bexx emceeing the event.
Rebecca (Bexx) Ferri is an artist and athlete who grew up on an apple farm in Southern Ontario. As much as she loves a good apple, she realized being a farmer wasn’t in the cards yet. So, she packed up her Volvo station wagon with her life and hightailed Westward to the mountains. She spend a good 6.5 years calling the Coastal Mountains her home-base, while she travelled the world rock climbing and mastering the skill of being a starving artist. She made the move to Canmore, Alberta in 2012 and is proud to call it home. She is super stoked to be an integral part of the Canmore Climbing Festival. Her role? Well, she is the little-bit-of-everything-girl, helping the team with the planning, organizing, updating social media and the website and emceeing on centre stage with the Almighty Andy Arts.
Born and raised in Mother Russia, Evgenii is a force to be reckoned with. Alongside his climbing talents, he is the artist and mastermind behind most of the route-setting at Canmore’s Elevation Place Climbing Gym. Eug (as he’s known around town) has been in the Bow Valley since 2011. Assistant coach to our very own CICS team, he is a vital part of the community. His main roll in the second annual Canmore Climbing Festival is being our graphic design guru; without his uber-talented mind and his major EMD / SoundCloud music sessions, we would be utterly lost.
